New Attitude

New Attitude: Daniel Ho

On 4th February 2007, we at CDC were privileged to have brother Daniel Ho give the message on Philippians Chapter 2 with the topic “New Attitude”.

From this message, there are three important elements that we should have in our attitude to grow together as a church.

(A) Unity

1If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, 2then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose.

Paul first of all exhorts us to strive for unity. Unity is not uniformity, with everyone thinking the same thing or doing the same thing. Unity here is aiming for the same goal, and doing our best to work together towards that same goal, despite differences in opinions and thinking. As a church, we need to pray for unity and work for unity, seeking together to exalt the Lord, extend the kingdom, and edify the church.

(B) Humility

3Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.

Selfish ambition and vain conceit are natural desires that rise up from within our fallen souls. Yet, Paul exhorts us not to follow our sinful nature, but rather choose to be humble, controlling our emotions to consider others better than ourselves. Humility is not a debased view of one’s self but strength under control. If we can truly learn to be humble towards each other and especially towards God, God is pleased and will work mightily through us!

(C) Compassionate

4Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.

Finally, Paul exhorts us to be compassionate, to empathize with others, and put ourselves in the shoes of others, to see things from the other’s point of view. This is the whole point of Jesus’ teaching to “do unto others as you would have others do unto you.”

May the Lord help us follow His great example of humility and compassion and enable us to work and pray together in unity for the glory of God always.
God bless, Jason
