The legacy of a great leader
This Sunday at FGA, we attended with sadness mixed with joy, a memorial service for the late Dr.Koh, a founding father of Full Gospel Assembly and one of our nation’s truly great Christian leaders. It was a sad time of parting, but also a wonderful time of reflection in joy as FGA remembered with great fondness the fatherly love, counsel, leadership and encouragement that he brought to so many in the course of his very fruitful life.
Brothers shared of his great humility and servant leadership by example, of his sharp mind and tireless concern for all things FGA, of his ability to always be available to lend ear and counsel to all who came to him, and his deep love for every single member of FGA, both new and old.
Pastor Dorai read from Psalm 73:25-28.
25 Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you.
26 My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart
and my portion forever.
27 Those who are far from you will perish;
you destroy all who are unfaithful to you.
28 But as for me, it is good to be near God.
I have made the Sovereign LORD my refuge;
I will tell of all your deeds.
Throughout his life, Dr.Koh served faithfully as a great servant of God, and he was always near to God. His very presence exuded the warmth and wisdom of God, and indeed he will be dearly missed by every single member of FGA and many more. He was truly like the good seed in the parable which fell on good soil, multiplying thirty times, sixty times, a hundred times and even more.
Giving the closing message, Pastor Michael Koh, his son, gave us further powerful insight into the life of Dr.Koh as a loving father, drawing our attention to 1 John 3:1
Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: 1 John 3:1This verse came back to Pastor Michael again and again, as he meditated on the life of his dear father. Behold, what manner of love indeed, that Dr.Koh lavished on his children and grandchildren. They never felt that he loved FGA more than them. They truly cherished his wonderful, deep love, which was like the love of our Heavenly Father. His legacy for his children came much more than what he taught them or said. His legacy came from his very soul and being, truly impacting all his children, both physical and spiritual. May the Lord truly bless his soul and reward him. He was truly a great hero among us and all would do well to emulate him.
