3 Ways to overcome the fear of rejection

3 Ways to overcome the fear of rejection

I was reading a book on the subject of Rejection recently and was thinking about it. This brings to mind in a hermit I recently saw in a movie who was holed up in her home, never daring to even leave home but having take away every day.

So many of us fear rejection, all over the world. It is a paralyzing fear, a fear that causes one to shrivel up and lock oneself away from the world. If I don’t meet people, then I will not be rejected, I won’t get hurt. Past hurts, parental rejection, emotional turmoil from childhood. There are many reasons why many of us keep a spirit of rejection within us. But how do we get out? How do we break free? I believe there are 3 activities that will help us, if we keep at it, and believe.

1) Recite 2 Timothy 1:7.

Every morning, look in the mirror and say “God did not give me a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind.” 10 times. Personalize it, apply it to yourself. The word of God has power, and the spoken word from our tongues has power too. After all, it is written that the tongue has the power of life and death

2) Apply the Divine Exchange of the Cross-His acceptance for our rejection

One of the divine exchanges that occurred on the cross of Calvary was Jesus Christ being rejected that we might be accepted. Therefore, we no longer need to feel rejected because through Jesus, we are accepted by God in Heaven. Accept this truth and thank Jesus for the cross, and for taking our rejection that we might receive His acceptance. Everyday, pray:- Lord Jesus, I thank you for the cross, where you were rejected that I might be accepted.

3) Pray for God to make us God-focused and other-focused and not self-focused.

When we are focused on ourselves, we can easily analyze our faults, our weaknesses, our sorrows, our sad history. When we are focused on God, we are focused on pleasing Him, doing His will, and helping others. Hence, the most important factor in being completely free from the fear of rejection is having our identity so secure in God, that we know that no matter how others treat us, we are happy and secure because we know that God loves us, and really, that is the most important thing!

Still, even after doing all these, we might still experience rejection, but the test now is how will we let rejection affect us? As we let the Word dwell deep in us, believe in our hearts that Jesus has taken our rejection away and be so focused and in love with God before all else, we will start to find rejection hardly affects us anymore, if at all.  God bless, Jason
