A Passion Driven life-Dr Benjamin George

A Passion Driven life-Dr Benjamin George

The speaker at FGA on Sunday morning was a renowned author, Dr Benjamin George, whose most important work was the book “Discipleship-becoming an everyday Christian”. He spoke at length on his passion for the church to embrace the true mantle of discipleship.

Coming back to the Purpose-Driven Life, he reminded the church that her five-fold purpose was for worship, fellowship, ministry, discipleship and mission. However, his main focus for the morning was the importance of developing a passion-driven life!

Reading from Colossians 1:9-10, Paul’s main prayer was that the Colossians be filled with knowledge of the will of God so that they may live a life worthy of the Lord Jesus.

9For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. 10And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God,

As Christians, this is our primary purpose and passion, to know the Lord, and to live a life worthy of Him.

Speaking to a Hindu friend who worships many gods, including Jesus, he was amazed when his friend uttered “if only I could have one millionth of the humility Jesus had, I would be happy.” How much more should we, being followers of the only true God, desire with greater passion to be more and more like Him!

We need to be passionate in listening to Jesus! Many times throughout Scripture, the Lord repeated “He who has ears, let him hear!” As we study the Word, we will be set free, as Jesus said “the truth will set you free!”. We need to embody the song “Be thou my vision” in our lives and mean it, and ask God to “open the eyes of our heart” that we may know His will and how to please Him.

We need to ask ourselves our purpose for coming to church. To hear nice songs, and a good sermon? No! It is for God that we come, to worship Him.

We must be heed the warnings on the letters of Jesus to the churches, to watch that we have not lost our first love, that our hearts have not become lukewarm.

In conclusion, let us seek God, for His word says that if we truly seek Him, He will be found of us.

God bless,

Jason
